About Frictology

A study about friction.

Friction makes meaning.

Frictology is a research project about what digital systems erase when they optimize away friction, especially as AI mediates more of our choices. It draws on cognitive psychology, AI ethics, and interaction design to study how interfaces, assistants, and platform defaults can flatten reality into something easier to route and harder to contest, and what kinds of friction keep people able to answer back.

Frictology was created by Max (more at https://max.onl ) and runs as an ongoing inquiry with practitioners and teams who care about autonomy, attention, authorship, and what good interaction should feel like when the stakes are real.

Working Hypothesis: Friction is the thing that makes meaning and keeps systems honest.
